Five Tools That Are Essential For Oil Rigs

Publicado el 2 de septiembre de 2022

Oil drilling from fields is a complicated task involving multiple oilfield service equipment to ensure proper safety, extraction, and cleaning. Although the variety of oil and gas equipment solutions available for use can be overwhelming at first, experts at CNPS have listed some of the most important tools you should make yourself familiar with. Each tool plays a critical role in reducing accidents, environmental impact, and costs.

#1- Mud Logging Equipment

Mud that is separated from the cuttings helps keep the rigs cool. Before it reaches the drill, the mud must be as clean as possible because, otherwise, its thickness can cause downtime when the drills lose their functionality.

Mud logging equipment or cleaner comprises a mesh with minor holes that prevent solids from entering the mud. It happens when the mud is poured into a hydro-cyclone. The mesh allows particles that are smaller than barite to pass. Since barite helps thicken the drilling solution, mud cleaners, therefore, help with current and future drilling ventures.

#2- Shale Shakers

The shale shakers eradicating mud (drilling fluids) from the cuttings (large solids) is a critical part of the solids control and separation system during oil rigs. Once the mud is separated, it’s used for cooling down the drill.

When done efficiently, the fluids can be reused multiple times. The process aids in lowering drilling costs as well as reducing environmental impact. Proper management of drilling fluids is directly correlated to the downstream controlling equipment’s efficiency in the long run.

#3- Stabbing Guides

Unfitting drilling pipe alignment during a project can cause work stoppage due to pipe damage and threat-related downtimes. Stabbing guides can be useful in aligning pins to box threads for an accurate and damage-free connection.

When it comes to the oil and gas industry, stabbing guides are also helpful in shielding against corrosion, impact, and extreme temperatures. Safety of pipe handling enhances when the damage risk of the single joint elevators, tune threading, and bail arms are reduced instead of causing the objects to be dropped from the derrick.

#4- Degassers

When large solids are separated from the drilling fluids, gas or air trapped inside them must be released. Degassers help to get rid of carbon dioxide, methane, hydrogen sulfide, and other gases. This helps improve oilfield safety by reducing the risks of explosions caused by gasses.

The atmospheric «poor boy» degasser is one of the two types and helps spread out fluids across a larger surface area. It utilizes propellers to make it easier to release the trapped gases. A vacuum degasser is another type that helps reduce the pressure inside the vessels to separate mud from the gases.

#5- Sand Pumps

Oilfield rigging requires the use of a variety of pumps. However, sand pumps address the need to move deposit materials away from drilling sites. They’re often placed in fluid or oil tanks filled with sand. The pumps function by rotating around a grooved disc’s central axis.

All the particles that come in contact with the grooved surface are removed and placed offsite using pipes. Besides cleaning and maintaining tasks, these pumps replace the use of manual labor or machinery to carry the particles away from the oilfield site. These pumps are useful in moving many materials other than sand.
